My project focuses on understanding how complex disease state, e.g. in obesity, arise and what the physiological and genetic underpinning of such diseases are. Part of my project utilizes a systems-genetics approach that begins with a genome scan in recombinant inbred mice to identify candidate loci and gene networks, which interact with dietary environment to affect metabolic traits. In a second step, I aim to measure gene expression of key candidates and map their expression to identify ‘master’ genes that regulate the expression of genes for intermediate phenotypes.
